Meet The Fellow

Meet Miriam Elisha Kassedy from Tanzania.

Miriam is currently hosted at the Legal and Human Rights Centre (Arusha office) for the practicum, and has been learning quite a number of things, including legal drafting.

Miriam’s project is on challenging the constitutionality of Section 169A of the Penal Code of Tanzania which criminalizes female genital mutilation to young girls (below the age of eighteen). In Miriam’s view, this section of the law fails to protect women who are eighteen years or older against the inhumane act of female genital mutilation. Through her project, Miriam hopes that the law will be amended to protect all women against female genital mutilation, regardless of their age.

We wish Miriam success!
